You know it will be a shame if they dump 30B into autos and forestry. Though in the brief platform they unveiled these 'strategic investments' were only part of what they want to implement. I'm a tree-hugger but as a species we're not going to stop making things out of wood or driving cars any time soon. Also, if I'm not mistaken, May supported the coalition because it offered potential to actually pass legislation restricting pollution.
If you prefer Harpers ranting, hand wringing, and indecisiveness then each to their own I guess.
Might I remind you of a magician who, when he wants to distract your attention gets you to watch his right hand while he does something with his left.
We are all watching the politics but behind closed doors - various players are plotting to spend uncounted billions in the name of emergency life rings.
A much more productive discussion might surround how to flow such massive amounts to achieve value and results.
My personal choices aside, where is the discussion ..... or do we abrogate our participation to nameless faceless but always self interested bureaucrats?

Maybe if Canadians wouldn't buy cars from automakers that send their profits back to a country that tortured Canadian POWs, used civilian women as sex slaves and enslaved and then slaughtered as many as 30 million Filipinos, Malays, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Indonesians and Burmese, the auto industry wouldn't be in this mess. But, alas, the stupid consumer is willing to pay more for better "perceived" quality which may have been true 10 or 15 years ago but is no longer true today. Wake up people or we'll soon all work for $8.50/hr at Tim Horton's. Yes, the government must bail out the auto industry. It's essential to the national interest and represents the last key component of the manufacturing base. And so what if an auto worker earns $60,000 per year. That's really only enough to maintain a middle class lifestyle. Do we no longer want a middle class in this country? Your hostility should not be directed towards those working for a decent wage but to those who earn obscene compensation packages in the millions of dollars [who deserves that anyways] for driving companies into the ground and trying to convice North Americans that we will have to learn to compete with the wage standards of China and India. Come on people. Surely you can't be that stupid.
If you follow the money anyone could figure out why.
The federal cash comes back 4 fold in taxes and continued spending in the economy.

If recycling money through Keynesian principles does "come back 4 fold", it makes me wonder why we need a free market at all. Why shouldn't we do alot more of this, in good times as well as bad?
