I wonder what the BIZ is doing to improve the situation...?

It would be even better if you were to add another color, say green, to all the areas of the downtown devoted to somthing called roads.

Then, you would start to show the impact of silly transportation ideas.

Is the BIZ in charge of parking development downtown? I thought it was the Parking Authority and Centre Venture, and when it suits them the private sector.

over 75 percent of the land mass in urban cities are dedicated to the mighty vehicle. Tough to change that gig!

Nah, it isn't the BIZ's responsibility. Just a cheap shot that wasn't really based on anything much...

These urbanists, they go on and on about what makes a vibrant city centre, but they completely ignore the benefits of having a nice big portion of downtown surface area devoted to at-grade parking lots. Look what it's done for Winnipeg. We're the envy of auto-centric societies the world over. Seriously, would you go downtown if you had to park on the street, or pay a premium to park in some dark scary parkade hidden away underground or within a larger building complex? I mean, if it ever got to that point you might as well use public transport! Sure, places like Montreal have great atmospheres, with tonnes of pedestrians downtown, more than the sidewalks can handle on some streets, but if you have to pay a premium to park in the city centre, or worse, use rapid transit to get there, then what's the point? Their problem is that they've put all kinds of shops, restaurants, apartments and mixed-use buildings where the parking lots should be.
